Lessons from daisies

During times of chaos, it's the simple things that bring solace. Many people consider it a beloved book, a comforting beverage, or a relaxing walk. During a time of great uncertainty, flowers, particularly daisies, provided me with the comfort and clarity I desperately was looking for. Let me share my experience with you and show the profound impact that flowers can have on mental health.

My journey with flowers:

In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, I happened to be in Nottingham. I, like many international students, was in the process of organising my return. I felt overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. The sudden cancellation of the trip left me stranded in the UK, far away from my loved ones. There was a great deal of tension and isolation.

During this period, I started taking strolls in the beautiful surroundings near my accommodation and university occasionally. Spring had arrived, and the world outside was bursting with life. When I stepped outside one morning on my way to the grocery store, I was greeted by a beautiful sight. The grass was covered in daisies, creating a burst of colour and filling the air with a delightful fragrance. The flowers had a soothing presence, as if they were silently offering me comfort.

The flowers had a soothing effect on my mind, captivating me with their beauty, fragrance, and simplicity. I felt a soothing tranquillity and a deep connection with the natural world, which washed away my concerns. I developed a fresh appreciation for the calming effect of flowers after that day; the daisies, in particular, provided me with a sense of warmth and relief.

The healing power of flowers:

The encounter with Daisy was truly eye-opening, not just a pleasant moment. I've come to realise that flowers have this incredible ability to connect us with the present moment and create a sense of peace. Flowers can enhance mental well-being through their vibrant colours, delicate petals, and relaxing fragrance.

Research indicates that engaging with flowers has been shown to have a positive impact on stress levels, mood, and overall enjoyment. Being around flowers can help foster a sense of mindfulness and self-care.
